Guided tour of General de Gaulle's birthplace

Charles de Gaulle's birthplace, a listed building, is located at 9 rue Princesse, in the historic district of Vieux-Lille. Charles de Gaulle was born on November 22, 1890, in this 19th-century bourgeois home belonging to his maternal family.

Transformed into a museum, the house has been restored to faithfully reflect the atmosphere of the time. Learners were able to discover original furniture and archives recounting the youth of the future General. The museum also features a permanent exhibition dedicated to the life and legacy of Charles de Gaulle, as well as a multimedia center to learn more about the history and family background of the famous statesman.

Guided through the authentic and richly restored rooms of the house, they discovered personal objects, period photographs and captivating accounts of the youth of the man who became the leader of Free France.
